Bands Update for Brutal Assault!
Did we say last week that the lineup was complete? We were wrong! We're adding the Czech thrash metal powerhouse FAÜST to the lineup! AVULSED were already part of the lineup, but we're "announcing" them again as an apology for having left them out of the death metal genre poster.

The bands performing on the KAL stage will be revealed very soon, along with the day-by-day breakdown of all performers. Stay tuned!

We bring you another batch of bands! The British collective Five the Hierophant will bring their gloomy mix of black, doom, and post-metal! Alongside their unique sound, they’ll impress you with their lineup – in addition to traditional instruments, you'll hear saxophone, French horn, trumpet, and ritual drums. Norwegian multi-instrumentalist Sylvaine will enchant with her blend of black metal, post-rock, and shoegaze, while the reborn American ensemble Sleepytime Gorilla Museum will deliver an avant-garde metal performance that blurs the line between music and theater! One thing these artists have in common – they’ll all perform at the Josefov Fortress for the first time!

Arthur Brown at Brutal Assault

Arthur Brown. An undisputed psychedelic/shock rock legend who influenced a whole generation of future stars with his 1968 hit "Fire". A hit that so many know without necessarily associating it with its author. The living legend, who will be 83 years old this summer, will convince you in the Fortress that age is just a number and genre boundaries are just an abstract concept.

Blood Fire Death: A Tribute to Quorthon and the MusTwenty years after Quorthon’s passing, his legacy comes alive in a unique performance at Brutal Assault, presenting iconic Bathory songs — Blood Fire Death: A Tribute to Quorthon and the Music of Bathory — led by members of Watain, Enslaved, Aura Noir, Vltimas, Mayhem, Bathory, and several other exclusive guests!

On June 3rd 2004 the metal world lost one of it’s biggest icons. Thomas ‘Quorthon’ Forsberg was instrumental in redefining metal as we knew it. With the seminal 1984 debut, “Bathory”, Quorthon single handedly laid the foundation of what has become the world-renowned phenomenon, that is black metal. There was Venom before him, but musically he laid out the blueprint for myriads of bands that followed, especially from Scandinavia, in the coming decades.

Upon his passing a wide array of celebrated musicians from the Norwegian black metal scene was summoned to pay their tribute to the fallen pioneer. At the annual Hole in the Sky festival in Bergen, Norway, musicians from bands like Darkthrone, Emperor, Enslaved, Satyricon, Immortal, Gorgoroth and Aura Noir performed a carefully selected set of Bathory classics that helped shape the sound of the Norwegian scene. In 20224, on the 20th anniversary of Quorthon’s passing, the core members of the original tribute constellation got together again at the Beyond the Gates festival, held in the revered Grieghallen, to once again pay their respect to the legend and the music of Bathory. This time the line-up also included E from Watain, who also contributed to the stage design and concept. The result can be summed up by two words: Pure magic.

As people have lamented their praise for the show, we have decided to do some select shows with the concept at some carefully selected summer festivals next summer. Blood Fire Death – A tribute to Quorthon and the Music of Bathory will feature the same band that fronted the 2024 edition:

In addition to the band, the concert will feature guest singers and musicians such as Grutle (Enslaved), Gaahl (Trelldom, ex-Gorgoroth) and Frederick Melander (ex-Bathory) along variety of other exklusive guests that will be announced later.

The show is based on Quorthon’s own vision of how he pictured a Bathory concert would look like should he ever bring his music to the live stage. „20 years after his passing, Quorthon continue to shiver our spines, curdle our blood and fuck our brains up with his music,“ says vocalist E (watain) about the project.

We would like to share with you the findings of this year. As part of the band booking process, we were able to snag a line-up that we were proud of and that represents both the spirit of Brutal Assault and most of your requests. Unfortunately, we live in turbulent times and far more bands are cancelling than would be healthy and than we ourselves would like.

We do our best to replace these artists, but bands like Anthrax for example cannot be fully replaced 4 months before the festival. Sure, we have Kreator here for example, but all bands like that have already made their plans for the summer and possibly signed exclusives at other Czech shows. That's why this year we ask for your kindness, all the changes we make are with the best of knowledge and conscience and the lesson that we will try to make up for it with an even more interesting line-up in the following year.

Let’s open this mega update with black metal stormblast! Over seven years, deathlike silence has filled the halls of the world’s biggest black metal forge, whilst powers have been gathering to resurrect the band right in time for their 25th anniversary. And now DIMMU BORGIR have finally returned with a vicious work of art that is their latest album Eonian and they are coming to storm the main stage at Brutal Assault!
Wicked aural filth comes from the islands with GODFLESH, who are highly regarded as one of the pioneers of industrial metal; they took industrial to the next level with their fuse of heavy guitars and mixing it with slow drum loops and effects and their unique approach has spawned several musical styles since their conception.

LINE-UP UPDATE WITH BORIS, WOLVES IN THE THRONEROOM AND CROWBAR

Sadly we have to start this announcement with two bands that had to withdraw from our lineup for this year - LIFE OF AGONY and GRUESOME. On the other hand we are very happy to welcome atmospheric black metal innovators WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM, who kickstarted whole alternative course of the genre some 15 years ago!

And the same goes for BORIS, the Japanese experimental genre shifting trio, that excites fans worldwide by their music drawing influence from psychedelic rock, punk, sludge, doom metal, drone, pop, noise, shoegaze and ambient for 25 years now! The English VALLENFYRE on the other hand have much simpler musical worldview consisting of gloomy death metal like only the British islands inhabitants can produce.

Lousiana‘s own CROWBAR formed around the charismatic character of Kirk Windstein will present the genre they helped to shape down there in the muddy swamps of NOLA - their characteristic blend of personal confession sludge. Two young bands - namely energic sludgy hardcore of Sweden’s GOD MOTHER and lively American metalcore of MISS MAY I - will be in contrast to all the seasoned veterans above.

Dark metal of Czech legends ROOT will celebrate 30 years in hell and Italians GRAVEWORM will cast shadow over our beloved fortress, while three closing acts of this batch will stir up the dust by setting armies of hardcore fans on collision course in the pit. These three bands are New York City hardcore punk SHEER TERROR, California metallic hardcore FIRST BLOOD and female fronted nu metal from Moldova INFECTED RAIN.

WE’RE THICKENING THE LINE UP!

Let’s take look on what’s going on at Brutal Assault camp! Swedish legends CLAWFINGER has disbanded after their last BA appearance in 2013 and ever since they only did a handful of shows, returning to some of the very special places they played during their career. This also stands true for Brutal Assault 2017!

The Russian pagan’s ARKONA founded exactly 15 years ago by the leader and main composer Masha Arkhipova represents the cream on top folk metal based on typicaly slavic melodies and pagan mysticism. It’s been mainly their powerful performance including great front(wo)manship by Masha, that put ARKONA on the map and currently the’re re-releasing their re-worked debut album to celebrate their anniversary.
BORN OF OSIRIS are also a cream on top band but of completely different genre, being fine representatives of progressive death metal / core branch, leading the pack towards new a new horizons.

Horizons are also the direction set by the viking ships of EINHERJER, the co-foudners of viking metal, who are also revisting their seminal debut album released in 1996. GRUESOME on the other hand are quite far from inventing a genre of their own but what they do they do best in the world and that is bringing the spirit of Chuck Schuldiner and Leprosy era Death in general!

MALIGNANT TUMOUR have recently celebrated 25 years on the scene by a new album with a simple title The Metallist! And they continue to spread their swinging earth-shaking rock’n’roll vibe with full force! MOURNING BELOVETH are fine Irish export and thus it seems their heavy, desperate and anguish inducing sound is a mandatory feature for them as it is for their fellow countrymen in the heavy music field.

THE LURKING FEAR are a band that you’ve probably haven’t heard about yet as their are still working on their debut 7‘‘ and album. THE LURKING FEAR plans to bring sheer, natural weirdness and horror back to the scene, as they want their death metal ugly, twisted and possessed. Why should you care? Well let’s take a look at the line-up!

We are also very excited that Swiss masters of darkness SAMAEL will celebrate their 30 year anniversary with a special set at Brutal Assault 2017, alongside French purveyors of macabre black death with atmospheric planes SVART CROWN.

While black metal fans should be more than satisfied with the line-up by now, with this batch we’re gonna make happy mostly the headbangers of death, as the title suggests!
Swedish death dealers AEON have recently reminded Europe on their tour with Cannibal Corpse that they’re still a force to be reckon with! And the same applies for the band revolving around Terrance Hobbs, possibly the only death metal guitar hero to share his hairdresser with the Predator! Indeed NY/DM godfathers SUFFOCATION are still a massive live force despite the recent line-up changes. CRYPTOPSY will present their own innovative ways of brutal death while the represantatives of the US murder capital Chicago under the monicker of MACABRE will indeed tell some tales of a macabre nature, revolviing around…surprise, murders and murderers!
Chicago took the torche from New York, a city that once witnessed it’s own Epidemic of Violence and the mighty thrash force DEMOLITION HAMMER has reformed to show You how it was like back in 1992! Besides the old school masters we’ll also have the cream on top of the new school US thrash with HAVOK!
ROTTEN SOUND will once again unleash a grinding fury that is yet to be surpased while their countrymen WOLFHEART on the other hand showcase the sad nature of Finland. Their thoughtful attitude is shared by German black metal DER WEG EINER FREIHEIT that will debut at our festival.
A band that needs no introduction and will not debut at our festival are ARCHITECTS, who are sadly returning without the deceased founding guitarist Tom Searle.

BRUTAL ASSAULT festival: A DEADLY CHRISTMAS BATCH OF BANDS IS HERE!



The impossible became reality and 25 years after their last show, the legendary MASTER'S HAMMER will do an exclusive summer festival show at Brutal Assault 2017! The band will do a set based on the early 90's songs for the old fans and those, who were not even born at the time alike..


There‘s no better way to open this christmas pack than with the goatfathers of unholy rotten death metal INCANTATION! GORGUTS, long-running Canadian craftsmen of technical death metal and possibly the greatest innovators of the genre will return in 2017! Another band on the bill offers very modern view on metal submerged in dreamy soundscapes, their unmerciful drums barrage and inhuman vocals will convince you, that FALLUJAH belongs to the realm of death after all. Another debut on BA will be performed by a band from the opposite side of the US; Boston’s REVOCATION are drilling the thrash waters in a way so powerful that they transcend again to the realm of death metal here and there. And no band knows more about that than the band that originally crossed the thrash – death bridge, POSSESSED will play BA for the first time!
German PROTECTOR took it the other way around and ended up with Teutonic thrash only after they started with their signature death thrash mixture, even for them this will be their BA debut and the same applies for a band that saw the first rise of thrash.. METAL CHURCH are active since 1980!
New York’s LIFE OF AGONY will bring their crossover debut line-up and for the fans of grindcore we can offer both the fun side of the thing by local gore rollers GUTALAX but also the dark nihilistic sludgy side of grind as presented by Holland’s own TEETHGRINDER. Dark sludgy waters are also a home to German MANTAR.
It has been written: 'The man shall live not by metal alone.‘ That is why French producer Gautier Serre will bring torture by mixing breakcore, death metal and baroque melodies under his pseudonym IGORRR. Also this is the reason for legendary Canadian electro-industrial group FRONT LINE ASSEMBLY to appear at BA 2017!
If you would fancy more black metal in the mix, we hope that an eastern orthodox ritual by BATUSHKA will do for you for now but make sure to come back on Thursday, we will have quite an announcement out in this field..

BRUTAL ASSAULT FESTIVAL: THE SECOND BIG BATCH OF BAND ANNOUNCED!

The second round of bands confirmed for BA 2017 is here! This time lets start with Swedish OPETH, unique metal act combining heavy riffs and prog elements for more than 20 years. British SIKTH will finally come to festival to play their influental music to the djent movement within progressive metal.


The other bands also do not need any special introduction: Greek gothic black metal matadors ROTTING CHRIST or American PRONG playing groovy crossover thrash.


Polish tech death metal DECAPITATED announced a special set to 20th anniversary. Another death metal act on the bill DESERTED FEAR is raging fierce take on the genre. Norwegian TSJUDER is known best for their relentless, aggressive approach to Black Metal. American COUGH is bringing their devastating heavy sludge/doom.


Three acts will offer uncompromising core music: THE AMITY AFFLICTION and CHELSEA GRIN and WHILE SHE SLEEPS. While Australians THE AMITY AFFLICTION will bring metalcore with post-metal elements, American CHELSEA GRIN will serve killing deathcore. The last is British metalcore WHILE SHE SLEEPS, powerful live band and one of the most promising band of the genre.


Last but not least on the bill are German respected industrial veterans KMFDM and American experimental music collective WREKMEISTER HARMONIES that combines drone and postrock elements.

BRUTAL ASSAULT FESTIVAL: THE FIRST BIG BATCH OF BAND ANNOUNCED!

The first big batch of bands confirmed for BA 2017 is here! Let's start first with bands, that were forced to cancel their appearance this year but will come to play for You in 2017: ELECTRIC WIZARD, NILE and TERROR. While ELECTRIC WIZARD are the best stuff the drug-infused sabbathian doom has to offer, NILE helped to reshape death metal with new themes and energy by the turn of the millenium and TERROR are years proven veterans of the HC scene!

But the other bands also do not need any introduction! AUGUST BURNS RED will bring their powerful metalcore, AMORPHIS will present their unique transformation from old school death metal to their distinctive melodic take on the genre, GADGET will bring blasting swedish grindcore and MAYHEM will play the legendary De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas in its entirety! MORBID ANGEL have reunited with the charismatic frontman Steve Tucker and will play our festival after quite a long hiatus, needles to say this lineup has set up very high expectation from the fans from all over the world!

Returning to our fest are NERVOSA, this all-female thrash power trio is raging with typical Brazilian fury while different take on the genre will be presented by SACRED REICH, who will debut on our fest and who despite not making it into the big four are a genre classic! Next band on the list SWANS are a band that needs to be witnessed. Avantgarde rock group revolving around Michael Gira has a new album out and this tour will be the last in the current lineup, that witness the band in the best shape and productivy during their carrer. The last band on this list is the band that made the most of the combination of old thrash and modern approach to metal - TRIVIUM.

Norwegian black metal tornado 1349 will once again whirl a massive cauldron of chaos at Brutal Assault fest! Blasphemous Polish death metal act EMBRIONAL will be part of the line-up as well as Swedish melodic doom/death act OCTOBER TIDE and lycanthro punk originators WOLFBRIGADE. Fans of modern forms of metal would appreciate young Australian metalcore with mathcore elements JACK THE STRIPPER. American songwriter KING DUDE will perform his dark neo folk. BRUTAL ASSAULT CONFIRMS NEUROSIS, DYING FETUS, STICK TO YOUR GUNS, VENOM INC. AND MORE!
The immensely brutal power trio of Maryland DYING FETUS will Reign Supreme at Brutal Assault 2016, alongside their labelmates OBSCURA, who will premiere songs from their brand new album Akróasis. From the swamps of Lousiana GOATWHORE will present the incarnation of the old school soul of extreme metal. The influental NEUROSIS will return with their opressive-mood-laden and original mixture of styles. STICK TO YOUR GUNS on the other hand will bring hardcore punk also straight outta California. Rap metal veterans STUCK MOJO will make appearance at BA 2016 as well as modern metal stars TESSERACT and UNEARTH. Sadly Tesseract will serve as a substitution for SIKTH, who once again pulled off our fest because of full US tour they will do in summer. There again is a mutual will to do a show at the very next edition of Brutal Assault. Closing this bill are VENOM INC., who are currently building a reputation of great live version with the true spirit of the original band. Mantas, Abaddon and Demolition Man (the Prime Evil lineup) reformed in April last year and have already toured the world (including China, Japan, Europe and America) with a full and classic VENOM set and proved to everyone they're the true powerhouse!

20 YEARS OF BRUTAL ASSAULT FESTIVAL IN HARDCOVER
On the occasion of 20th anniversary edition of Brutal Assault, organizers published a truly unique book that summarizes the entire history of the festival from the very beginning in 1996 to the present. The publication simply entitled "Brutal Assault: 20 years (1996-2015)" describes in detail a growing festival from a small event for a few hundred people to one of the biggest metal festivals in Europe. A total of 442 pages in Czech and English offer comprehensive information about every single edition of the festival ¬ memories of headliners as well as loyal fans. An intergral part of the book are also behind¬the¬scenes stories about preparation and organization.
"Some stories seem adventurous, if not crazy," says author Pavel Kriklan. "Would you pawn your own house to get money for headliner?" asks Kriklan. The text is accompanied by hundreds of photos. A series of photos, for example, is about reconstruction of the fortress in 2007, when all those wooded areas with old houses have become a place for a huge metal event.
The book also contains a summary of all the best that occurred over the years including a comprehensive index of all performing bands.

Fresh confirmed bands with VOIVOD, EYEHATEGOD & SIKTH!
This time we start with caveman battle doom, from the swamps of mythical Hyborian ages comes English doom hammer CONAN! Considered by some an ugly bastard spawned by Black Sabbath and Sun O))), they’ve defined their own sound on the split with Slomatics and their debut EP Horseback Battle Hammer. Industrial metal/EBM stars DIE KRUPPS will join us alongside legendary southern bastards EYEHATEGOD, who will claim their repugnant dopethrone for the first time at our festival! Next a band that formed entirely new vision of progressive metal at dawn of our milenium, SIKTH! These guys were supposed to play last year but their studio schedule prevented them from doing so in the end. But the wait was totally worth it, the new EP Opacities is again a gamechanger, or at least a piece that bursts with creativity and technical skills and oscillates between madness and classical musical approach. Controversy sprouting Niklas Kvarforth and his Swedish enslemble SHINING will take part as well as Norway’s own SLAGMAUR, who will honour us with one of their extremely rare avantgarde black metal shows. A big name in the end, VOIVOD! VOIVOD seem to be in perfect shape ever since Canadian guitar hero Daniel Mongrain (Martyr, Cryptopsy, Gorguts) has joined their ranks to replace the sadly deceased Piggy and will celebrate the musical greatness of various genres.

A MASSIVE LINEUP UPDATE IS HERE!

The first band in this batch comes from Belgium and is revolving around Sven de Caluwé – yes we’re talking about the butchers from ABORTED! Returning to the festival after many years are ARCH ENEMY, this time with the notoriously blue haired singer Alissa White-Gluz as a frontwoman! We’re also extremely pleased to welcome Swiss masters of technical thrash CORONER to the line-up for the first time! Pioneers of the Gothenburg scene DARK TRANQUILLITY will appear at Brutal Assault 2016 alongside one of the hottest bands in modern extreme genres ESKIMO CALLBOY. If you’re an old school death metal fan (escpecially in the vein of Leprosy by Death) we have GRUESOME for you. For the fans of experimental music on the other hand we have HYPNO5E from France and Norwegians LEPROUS, who have already played our fest as Ihsan’s live band. Esoteric atmosphere laden bands will be represented by Portugese legends MOONSPELL and and the American Egyptologists NILE! Florida death metal scene will not by represented by it’s dispiles GRUESOME but also by the mighty co-founders OBITUARY, who are in a magnificent shape! Not only the last time announced Insomnium will represent the finnish version of melodic death metal, they will be joined by OMNIUM GATHERUM. The final unholy trinity of black metal acts consists of TAAKE, SATYRICON, who will perform a 20th Anniversary Nemesis Divina set, and of SIGH from Japan!

Some of you might consider it odd, that we have controversial black metal act TAAKE of Norway on this years' roster, since some of you have their 2007 third reich symbol scandal on mind. We've been thinking about this for at least two years. These things are against our principles and our policy and we think these things have no place in metal nor in daily life. We're still opposed to intolerant ideologies of all kinds. However this TAAKE case is a bit different. The band itself has nothing in common with political ideologies nor haven't the band's artistic course been shaped by a political ideology. We consider this live performance incident of the singer a stupid provocation, that was already punished years back. Everyone has a right to change their opinion or to mess something up and change his ways afterwards. A lifetime persecution is an instrument of undemocratic regimes. The band has been claiming not to be political act since 2008 and has apologized for the incident several times. Nine years after we came to believe that this was a one-off foolishness and we've decided to give TAAKE a chance to play Brutal Assault 2016. If you don't believe in their reforming, we ask you to understand our stance. The motto of the festival is still against violence and intolerance and this will remain

Lineup changes published 3 days ago

Last couple of weeks brang us some good and some bad news, hence these line-up changes. M.O.D. ceased to exist while Evergreen Terrace, Rings of Saturn and Cattle Decapitation have canceled their tours. Instead of Evergreen Terrace we have PRO-PAIN on the bill, Rings of Saturn were replaced by HORSE THE BAND and MONUMENTS, Cattle Decapitation were replaced by HOUR OF PENANCE and instead of M.O.D. we'll have DR. LIVING DEAD.

Besides aforementioned PRO-PAIN, HORSE THE BAND, MONUMENTS, HOUR OF PENANCE and DR. LIVING DEAD we've confirmed Polish OUTRE, Swedish VICTIMS and NEGLECTED FIELDS from Latvia.

Max Cavalera recently put out his autobiography, so there's no need to tell the story of his departure from Sepultura and forming SOULFLY here. What is important however, is the fact that we have both SEPULTURA and SOULFLY on the bill.We're also proud to announce that elusive black metal cult known as CULT OF FIRE will play our fest once again! We remain the one and only open air fest they ever agreed to play and we will make this a very special show, stay tuned for more. From Israel or Netherlands more precisely we will have MELECHESH playing their middle east influenced black metal. From Melbourne, Australia NE OBLIVISCARIS will bring their own way of mixing progressive with classic and melodic with extreme metal. For the fans who like to discover new things we confirm shamanic music ritual of Bön tradition as performed by PHURPA, group of Russian artists focusing on ancient tibetian traditions. Finally, the bands MAXIMUM PENALTY and WISDOM IN CHAINS will represent american hardcore scene. We're now updating all the bands' profiles at our homepage, so take a look!

New confirmed bands with Mayhem and DHG

We bring You new confirmed bands led by cult black metal act MAYHEM. MAYHEM of corpse need no introduction, especially not at our fest, where they already had showed what they later confirmed with Esoteric Warfare, that they finally found tight line-up, which delivers great performance on stage and in studio as well. However the no-introduction-needed status may not be the case with Italian quartet AD NAUSEAM. AD NAUSEAM deliver extreme state-of-art death metal with no artistic compromises. Their music is still yet to be discovered by all the technical / avantgarde death metal maniacs but be sure this will rip Your head off, especially if you dig Gorguts' avant-garde songwriting and the complexity of Ulcerate. Check their debut album here. Next news on the bill are ARCTURUS, the famed all-stars bedlam of Norway! And yet again from the other side of the musical spectre german digital hardcore ATARI TEENAGE RIOT will cause mayhem at our fest. Two more bands from Norway are part of this batch, one of them being renowned death metal instution BLOOD RED THRONE and the other the mighty and untamed DØDHEIMSGARD, who recently released follow up to their aclaimed album Supervillain Outcast under the name A Umbra Omega. HED PE from California will bring their unique mixture of punk rock, metal and rap, while the mysterious half man, half synthesizer PERTURBATOR will hunt down humans with his dark retrofuturistic synths terror. The latest addition to our bill is french bizzare metal act SEBKHA-CHOTT.

Happy New Year from Brutal Assault team! We’ve got some presents for you, here comes a new batch of confirmed bands headed by UK grindcore legends NAPALM DEATH! Hailing from Denmark, death metal/post-thrash BLOOD EAGLE are a brand new band, however they’re composed of experienced metal veterans of various genres. For hardcore fans we've booked a classic New York band BIOHAZARD. Oldschool death metal fans can rejoice as well as we confirm that Swedish all star project BLOODBATH and cult Buffalo butchers CANNIBAL CORPSE will play. The young generation fans of extreme music who appreciate death metal/metalcore fusion can look forward for the show of EMMURE. Britain's fantastic ESOTERIC will make the funeral doom fans happy, while dancewilling youngsters should get ready for ILL NINO. Charismatic Irish veterans PRIMORDIAL and pioneers of post thrash/melo death metal THE HAUNTED will aslo play the festival in 2015.

Mexican cartel BRUJERIA is on the list among Canadian hyperblast death metal masters CRYPTOPSY and exotic DEMONIC RESURRECTION of India, who are returning to our festival as well more known and respected progressive death/black metal band. Cold nordic chill will be present through Norwegian viking metalers EINHERJER and blasting Swedish black metal by MARDUK, who will perform their classic album Panzer Division Marduk in its’entirety for the last time ever! Hailing from Brasil is NERVOSA, all female thrash power trio! Another band will bring their fresh South American thrash metal like from the golden age of 80's – NUCLEAR from Chile, while Australia’s own PSYCROPTIC will deliver thinking mans‘ death metal. Modern extreme technical deathcore RINGS OF SATURN will debut a tour fest as well as ROSETTA – well known post-hardcore ensemble from Philly. Old school crossover – thrash will be heared from classic band of the genre - M.O.D.! SVARTIDAUÐI from Iceland will bring their psychedelic black metal visions and VADER will join with their unaging death metal.

Within the framework of expansion of our service for BA fest visitors we’ve prepared Guarded Parking Place for cars, caravans, vans and motorcycles. This service is available from Tuesday 03:00 PM to Sunday 08:00 AM, price: 500 CZK for car, 900CZK for caravan or van and 300 CZK for motorcycle (prices for the whole festival, leaving and re-entry with your vehicle possible). Parking place is limited. You can park your car in the Josefov city but at your own risk only.

Accommodation during BA

We have got couple of questions about available capacities at hotels and VIP camp. We have good news about VIP camp, where the capacities will be increased comparing to the last year. Also we will be offering “ready to sleep” tents rental (more details coming soon). As for the hotel capacities, they are getting thinner however there still single rooms (very few), double and triple rooms available. For more details check the ACCOMMODATION section.

Lineup changes

Brutal Assault announces two line up changes. American death metal band PYREXIA has been forced to cancell all European tour including Brutal Assault. As their replacement Brutal Assault announes Hungarian death metallers GUTTED.

Shining - Avantgarde band from Norway which rose as a jazz quartet and during the years was gradually changed into cold, dark, synthetically needled avantgarde metal with black metal influences. To see them live is usually a big experience so let's hope they will deliver the same on the BA festival and let's get focused on their show.

Misery Index - Rough ornithological death/ grind hails from Baltimore US. The band delivers heavy riffing with one of the fastest and most powerful baterry on the current scene with mr. Jason Netherton behind the mic. So once the power of music should kill someone, you will be killed.

H2O - hails Brutal Assault for the very first time ever with their music roots from NY ghettos. These HC /punkers will enlarge the variety of BA artists and will reveal that their music is heavy enough but just from a bit different perspective.

Satyricon - one of the greatest ikons of black metal genre confirmed their performance on 19th edition of Brutal Assault festival. The leader of the band Satyr bewitch their crowd for over 23 years contrary to some other black metal bands he still has the burning force and appetite to do things different way which designites them to conquer...

Nightfall - Legend of Greek melodic death/doom metal makes their first live appearance in CZ after their reunion. They have brought to the scene such gems as Macabre Sunset (1993) or Athenian Echos (1995). Their latest album is called Cassiopeia.

Hacktivists - What a great combination of djent technics and hard core / rap barking with their first ever performance on BA.

Brutal Assault Festival this is not only the marathon of extreme music which offers the best from a variety metal genres, in total over 80 bands from around the world.

Do not hesitate to visit the „chill out“ zone on the place called „Greenfield“ inside the Fotress, just a short walk from the main stage area. This year with „Marshall City“ big top (workshops, guitars, amplifiers, meet and greet etc), Horror Cinema House or huge Metalmarket. „Brutal bars“ will offer various kinds of alco/non-alcoholic drinks, including new kinds of soda or 100% natural Absinth. If you are travelling by train, you can get a 50% discount on your train ticket if travelling with Ceske drahy. Among other things you cal also look forward to the ATM (placed near the main entrance gate) or large tent with 1000 seats placed close to the natural stand.

We are once more sorry for last year’s long queues for e-tickets validation as well as for VIP camp failure.
We have been working hard on this and finally prepared new system for tickets check for this year.
There are three most important innovation: 1, In the main box office (E-TICKETS) there will be five times more electronic readers for checking the barcodes. 2, In the main entrance area there will be 12 check-in points for wristbands. 3, The main box office (E-TICKETS) will be open from Tuesday, August 6th, from 3:00pm onwards.
The same innovation is connected to the VIP camp, the box office for VIP camp reservation will be also open from Tuesday, August 6th, from 3:00pm onwards (VIP camping site will also open its gates from 3:00pm).

We are more than happy to announce another improvements that will be greatly enjoyable for your stay at the BA festival:

Now you can enter the festival area with cameras with interchangeable lenses, but for the purpose of photographing only. Taking videos or enter with cameras is still prohibited.

Another, more important news is that we finally realized the long-planned raised platform for the handicapped persons, who can find plenty of space for a better view on the main festival ground.

BA festival becomes green and cups info

It is also our pleasure to announce that BA festival becomes green! This year we bring another novelty again, concretely ArecaGoodPlates which are natural and high duality disposable plates made from fallen dried leaves of Areca palm tree. At this moment a big container from India is arriving to Josefov and you can already look forward to this original stuff which will be a part of the equipment of all refreshment kiosks at the festival.

We also continue in separated waste program and also in the refundable cups system. This year the advance deposit for 1 BA cup will be 1,5 coupon (45,- Czk).

Few line-up details published

On the grounds of your comments we have decided to rearrange playing times of few bands to not overlap with those silmilar in genre. We believe these changes will make your stay at BA more pleasant. Thank you, guys, for your factual remarks.

Namely it goes for ambiguity of double occurence of Novembers Doom on our list. You have to know that these doom pioneers will really play twice, on Thurs at Metalshop stage and then there will be their accoustic performance on Fri at Obscure stage. We have been also forced, due to a partial line-up share in In Vain and Solefald, to switch Solefald and Aborym, whose live set has been modified. US death metal commando Skeletal Remains has been finally put on the list on Thurs at Obscure stage. The programme should be actual right now.

We are sad to announce that both KILLING JOKE (serious family problems) and D.R.I. (injured guitarist) have been forced to cancel their performance at BA festival.
But we are also happy to announce that famous drummer Dave Lombardo (Slayer) and his band PHILM have been confirmed as a new act for this year’s edition.
Other newly confirmed bands are Swedish death metallers VORMITORY and Ukrainian nihilistic black metal band BALANCE INTERRUPTION.

Rotations on BA roster
BA line-up has registred two changes. Both American bands AS I LAY DYING and EMMURE have announced the cancellation of their currently scheduled summer performances including BA festival.
AS I LAY DYING message: „Given the circumstances, we feel that it is best for the band to be off the road while the current situation (Tim Lambesis cause) gets sorted. We would like to thank all of our fans for their ongoing support at this difficult time.“ EMMURE are recording their new album and planning upcoming autumnal Never Say Die Tour.

As replacement for mentioned two bands we are happy to announce French progressive modern metal band HACRIDE, German neuro-core band WAR FROM A HARLOTS MOUTH and Croatian math groove metalists E.N.D. as a newly confirmed acts for BA 2013.

The Korea band was formed in Saint-Petersburg, Russia, in 2003. Preparing the material for their records the band rehearsed and performed a lot. Their first full-length release "On The Broken Wings" was presented in March 2006. Later the band made the first video for their track "The Poles". The Korea's second album "The Pulse" was released in October 2007. The band had several big tours supporting the album in Russia and CIS countries. After a long creative break the band recorded a single called "The Sandman" which was released online on April 9th, 2010. In awhile the band made their decision to change the name, sound and stylistic concept. That led to the change of the lead vocals. In summer 2011 The Korea got into the studio to record their third long-play "The Chariots Of The Gods". November 19th the band presented their new single and music video "The Chaos Theory". The album "The Chariots Of The Gods" was released on January 15th. 12 sept The Korea sign with Rogue Records America and start to record new EP called "Saturnus".

Noostrak is progressive deathmetal band formed in Havlíčkův Brod, Czech republic by guitarist Michal Florian, drummer Jarda Soukup (two former members of current line-up) and bassist Jakub Pekař in 2002/2003 (in that time they were only 9 years old!). In 2011, they've finally succeed. Vašek Jaroš joined the band as the bassguitarist and Luboš "Fred" Kristek (Smashed Face) as vocalist. It was the new beginning for all of them, the've started to make new songs, record first full lenght album (released in June 2012), a lot of shows came suddenly.
We're fully absorbed in making new songs right now, but unfortunately we have experienced another line up change on a post of the bass guitar. We do believe this inconvenience should be fixed until our Tour.
A good news for all the fans of our merchandise is that there should be a bunch of new designs during the tour.

Brutal Assault announces new names: CARCASS, ENSIFERUM, SYLOSIS

British extreme metallers CARCASS have been confirmed for this year’s Brutal Assault Festival. Reactivated grindcore legends are putting the finishing touches on their first studio album in 17 years with acclaimed producer Colin Richardson. Guitarist Bill Steer said: „People can expect to hear a fairly different Carcass set, the old favourites will in there, of course, but we’re also planning to play a couple of the less obvious tracks from our past, as well as songs from the album we’ve just completed.“

Another confirmed bands are Finnish Viking/folk metallers ENSIFERUM and British melodic death/thrash metallers SYLOSIS.

Another three bands confirmed

Suffocation has ever belonged to the group of major death metal bands and to the most periodically recurring headliners of BRUTAL ASSAULT. A recently published song has shown, who sits on the imaginary death metal throne and you will definitely find it out this year seeing them with their former vocalist Frank Mullen.

D.R.I. - the living contemporaries of Huston, will whirl up the dust under legs of all the lovers of festival motion. They may even play songs from a forthcoming album which has been anticipated for a while.

French post black metal romantics Alcest made a great success last year but that's not the only reason why we will invite them in the fortress again.

GODFLESH, NILE and KAMPFAR confirmed for Brutal Assault 2012
This is another part of the mosaic called Brutal Assault 2012.

GODFLESH, industrial metal pioneers from Birmingham, UK, formed in 1988 by Justin Broadrick and G. C. Green, have confirmed their appearance at BA 2012. The group disbanded in 2002 but reformed in 2010, appearing in few festivals and starting to produce a new studio album.

Another confirmed acts are American extreme technical death metallers NILE and Norwegian black metallersKAMPFAR.

First confirmed bands for Brutal Assault Festival 2012, set to take place August 9-11, 2012 in Josefov, Czech Republic, have been announced.Bands like IMMORTAL, MOONSPELL, HEAVEN SHALL BURN, PARADISE LOST, TEXTURES, INCANTATION, VIRUS, ARKONA, GENERAL SURGERY or CATTLE DECAPITATION will appear in Old Army Fortress next summer.Watch www.brutalassault.cz for actual information about new bands and tickets.

Reactivated American industrial metal band MINISTRY have confirmed their appearance at the Brutal Assault Festival 2012! Reunited line-up headed by Al Jourgensen will introduce new album "Relapse" which will be released March 30th 2012. MINISTRY line-up will exist of Al Jourgensen, Mike Scaccia (Rigor Mortis), Tommy Victor (Prong), AAron Rossi (Prong), John Bechdel (Prong) and Tony Campos (Static-X).

Other confirmed acts are Norwegian legendary black/avant-garde metal band ARCTURUS and Finnish melodic death metallers NORTHER.


Norwegian symphonic black metallers DIMMU BORGIR, German thrash metal pionners SODOM and American deathers THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER have been confirmed for Brutal Assault 2012.


It is a return after two years from their last attendance - Brutal Assault 2012 confirms American hardcore/metal band CONVERGE!

Dear BA fans, thank you for your actual support and interest in this year’s BA Festival. We are almost ready with the final line-up. Next trio contains one of the last bands for the 16th volume of the festival.

Let’s start with the highest caliber. German thrash metal veterans KREATOR will play Brutal Assault for the first time! One of the most influential and successful European metal bands will rock the Fortress.

Next confirmed have been French ambient/experimental band UNEVEN STRUCTURE.

BA confirms CRYPTOPSY and NERVECELL. Nevermore and Norther canceled.

This year’s line-up is almost complete. As one of the last confirmed band has been confirmed Canadian deathmetal killing machine CRYPTOPSY headed again by Jon Levasseur, former lead guitarist and major creative contributing force behind “None So Vile”, “Whisper Supremacy”, “And Then You’ll Beg…” who has returned to the band.
Next confirmed are United Arab Emirates-based death/thrash metallers NERVECELL with new album “Psychogenocide”.

Due to Jeff Loomis and Van Williams leaving the band, NEVERMORE announced that they would be cancelling all their planned shows, including BA 2011. Another canceled band is Finnish NORTHER, in this case for non-professional work of their agent.
We will intensively look for adequate compensation.

New movements on the roster published

KATATONIA, together with Opeth a leading representative of current Swedish progressive metal scene will appear at the Brutal Assault Festival. KATATONIA is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year so be ready for a special show!

Other confirmed is well known American female fronted industrial metal band GENITORTURERS.

ARCHITECTS and UNEXPECT confirmed for BA 2011

British metallers ARCHITECTS are newly confirmed for Brutal Assault 2011. Progressive metalcore band has just released their new album “The Here and Now”.
Other newly confirmed is Canadian avant-garde extreme metal band UNEXPECT. Eccentric ensemble has set a May 31 release date for its new album “Fables Of The Sleepless Empire”.

Finnish „battle metal“ warriors TURISAS, German thrash/death metallers DEW SCENTED and „marijuana-themed“ death metallers CANNABIS CORPSE are newly confirmed for the BA Festival.

BA line-up is becoming stronger. Experimental hardcore band HORSE THE BAND, well known for their 8-bit Nintendo-influenced sound, American slam death metal band WAKING THE CADAVER and French death/grindcore band BENIGHTED have been confirmed for Brutal Assault 2011.

New wave of newly confirmed band is rolling. Boston-based hardcore re-united
band BLOOD FOR BLOOD, French death/black metalers SVART CROWN and Czech
thrash metal pioneers DEBUSTROL are newly confirmed acts for the Brutal
Assault 2011.

Unfortunately bad news came from GORGUTS management. The band has cancelled
all shows in summer because of delayed release of their new album.

Let’s go on with three new bands. Brazilian/American metal icon SEPULTURA returns to the BA Festival! After last year’s unexpected changes on the schedule when many of you BA-fans missed their appeareance, SEPULTURA will come back again in summer 2011. Please, consider their return as our apology for last year.
